Here We GO! 1st topic - Airbnb, VRBO, and vacation rentals in Laguna Beach?

Airbnb, VRBO, and vacation rentals in Laguna Beach.

This is a great topic of controversy in Laguna Beach and is something we need to discuss.

Lets start back in December of 2017.

Here is a snippet of an article from the OC register -

The California Coastal Commission rejected Laguna Beach’s ban on short-term rentals in residential neighborhoods — arguing that it blocks access to public beaches and parks and closes most of the city to the rentals.
Commissioner Steve Padilla called it “discriminatory” during the meeting Thursday. Dec.14 at the Ocean Institute in Dana Point.
“This is a loss, this is a net loss and there is nothing in the record that suggests anything other than that,” Padilla said. “It’s discriminatory, economically. There is absolutely no doubt about that.”

based this article we can infer that plenty of people disagree with this new ban, and some feel it's hurting the local economy. Here is another snippet from the article -

The city’s ban left 8,900 properties closed to short-term rentals, according to a report by commission staff.  The city has 780 residential units available in the commercial and industrial zones, the report said.

How do you feel about the ban?

Is it a good idea or is it detrimental to our city?

  1. Thanks for sharing this! I personally don't agree with the ban.

Laguna Beach real estate is some of the best real estate out there though! I would love to buy a home here someday.
